Steam Train

Who doesn’t want to ride on a Steam Train ???

Marlborough Flyer steam trainThe Marlborough Flyer is a steam train and rekindles the majesty of a bygone era. It is the World War 1 memorial locomotive formerly known as AB608 – “Passchendaele”. Built in 1915, it has undergone a major rebuild which was completed in 2014. Similarly restored coaches from the same era will complete the train in use.

On cruise ship days, the Marlborough Flyer will carry up to 250 passengers from Picton on a 29 km journey through the scenic Koromiko pass to Blenheim. The journey includes bridges, tunnels and a challenging 1-in-37 gradient slope.

Alighting in Blenheim, passengers can join one of 2 winery tours, visit the Aviation Heritage museum or make their own arrangements, before the return journey to Picton in good time before the ship sails. Seats are strictly limited so early booking is recommended.

The last Sunday of every month in the tour season, starting in December, is “Super Sunday”. Trips on these days will run independent of cruise ships and be for locals and visitors who happen to be in the area. Tickets will be sold on a first come / first served basis.
